On April 5, 2011, Tana and Tau Samawa witnessed a historic moment. After nearly 80 years since the inauguration of Sultan Kaharudin III, the coronation of Sultan Kaharudin IV as the Sultan of Sumbawa was once again held. This event coincided with the birthday of Sultan Kaharudin IV, bringing great hope to the people of Tau Samawa. Sultan Kaharudin IV is expected to become a guardian, protector, and role model for the people of Sumbawa.
The Concept of Sultan Kaharudin IV’s Coronation

The coronation of Sultan Kaharudin IV was carried out with the same concept as in the ancient kingdom era. The coronation ceremony was the main event, attended by all kings and sultans from the Eastern Indonesia region, as well as traditional leaders from West Nusa Tenggara.
The Basiram and Sesalin Pengkenang Procession

The coronation ceremony began with the Basiram procession, where the Sultan of Sumbawa performed a sacred bathing ritual at the Bala Kuning Palace. This was followed by the Sesalin Pengkenang, where the Sultan donned his royal attire but still without the crown.
Heading to the Dalam Loka Palace

The Sultan, accompanied by his consort, Permaisuri Andi Tenri Djadjah Burhanuddin, along with traditional leaders, proceeded to the Dalam Loka Palace. There, the Core Committee of the Sumbawa Traditional Institution was ready to welcome Sultan Kaharudin IV, who served as the coronation official in this procession.
Coronation at the Nurul Huda Grand Mosque

After being welcomed at the Dalam Loka Palace, the Sultan and his consort headed to the Nurul Huda Grand Mosque. They were accompanied by the entire community and invited guests, complete with royal symbols. At the mosque, the Sultan was crowned as the Sultan of Sumbawa by the Imam of Nurul Huda Mosque.
The Purification Procession

After being crowned, the Sultan returned to the Dalam Loka Palace and was paraded around the Dalam Loka seven times. This procession was sanctified with Jeruk Ai Oram.
Colossal Cultural Performance

In addition to the coronation ceremony, the organizing committee also held a colossal cultural performance showcasing various traditional arts of Sumbawa. Some of the arts performed included Mulai Ratip Rabana Ode, Ngumang, Balawas, Sakeco, Malangko, Main Iwak, Badempa, and Karaci. This public celebration lasted for three days and three nights and was centered at the Dalam Loka Palace.
A Symbol of Unity

The coronation procession of Sultan Kaharudin IV reflected how the coronation of the 16th Sultan of Sumbawa was revived. This coronation became a symbol that, although Sumbawa Regency and West Sumbawa Regency are administratively separate, historically they remain united under the Sumbawa Kingdom.
